On Bharathidasan University's main campus
Tiruchi: School of Engineering and Technology (SET), Bharathidasan University, has opened up career options for students interested in expanding their studies in the area of engineering and technology; and enhancing scope for specialisation.
After the SET that was formed in 1997 transformed into Anna University, Tiruchi, in 2007, the Bharathidasan University revived it again during 2007-08 to offer six-year integrated M.Tech programmess in Computer Science and Engineering, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Geo-technology.
The uniqueness of these programmes offered under Choice-Based Credit System is that fast learners can graduate earlier than the prescribed period of study.
The M.Tech programme is integrated with a B.Tech degree of 4 year duration in the respective disciplines. It is possible for fast learners to earn the required credits for B.Tech in three years time. These programs are offered in both Tamil and English medium, said the Coordinator T. Thirunalasundari.
There is also a provision for lateral entry i.e., candidates who have completed their M.Sc. / B.E. / B.Tech., programs can join at the 5th year of the M.Tech Program to qualify for M.Tech., by taking the four semester programme.
There is a special provision to transfer students from onebranch of specialisation to another under exceptional circumstances, she said.
The advantage for the Plus Two students opting for the Integrated M.Tech programmes is that they will have exposure to the advanced research environment and will be taught by the top-notch teachers. The students can associate themselves with research projects undertaken by the departments in collaboration with leading international academic institutions and industries.
The SET determines its success in terms of generating new knowledge and advancing the progress of research; delivering world-class, research-based education to students; broad-basing training in academia, industry, and society; and facilitating technology transfer, applying people and ideas to improve our society and our world, said Dr. Thirunalasundari.
