Students rush in for revaluation

Chennai: Monday morning saw the Directorate of Public Instruction campus on College Road swamped by 17-year-olds and their parents, trying to purchase application forms for re-evaluation of the Class XII board exam answer scripts and to obtain photocopies of the evaluated answer scripts.

A senior official in the department of government examinations said, “Around 8,000 candidates applied either to get photocopies of their answer scripts or for retotalling of their marks at the three counters at the information centre on Monday.”
Among the students were those who had scored poorly, failed in the exam or those like M Dhanalaxmi, a student of a city school who felt that her paper was not properly evaluated.

“I took extra coaching for Tamil, but I have scored only 183 marks. I expected to do much better. Because of this my total has gone down. So I wanted to check the photocopy of my paper to see how it has been evaluated and then apply for revaluation or retotalling if necessary,” Dhanalaxmi said.

Students are permitted to obtain the photocopies of answerscripts in Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Zoology, Mathematics and Computer Science by paying Rs 275 a paper and for language and English papers by paying Rs 550 a paper. Students have to get a demand draft from a nationalised bank in favour of the director of government examinations, Chennai-6.

“The single-window counselling for admission to professional colleges will begin in June. Therefore, we need the revised marks well in advance for us to qualify for the first phase of counselling,” said Charulatha Mohan of Alpha Matriculation Higher Secondary School, who has applied for photocopies of her maths paper.
