“Proposal for 16 new Central varsities”
Tambaram: Union Minister for Shipping G.K. Vasan on Saturday said the future of India and her progress was in the hands of the youths.
Speaking at the 11th Graduation Day of Sri Sai Ram Engineering College near here, he said the Centre had been spending much of its resources for educating the nation's youths. At this year's budget, Rs.45,711 crore was allocated for the education sector, which was 25 per cent more compared to last year. Out of this, Rs.34,711 crore was for primary education and Rs.11,000 crore for higher education. Pointing out to the Centre's commitment in strengthening technical and management education, Mr. Vasan said there were proposals to start 16 new Central universities and seven new Indian Institute of Managements, among others.
Reminding the students about the importance of persistently upgrading their skills, the Union Minister said there were 40 lakh educated Indian youth in the U.S., U.K., Canada, Singapore and Gulf countries, employed in various sectors. He said Indians had earned the respect of software companies all over the world owing to their hard work and sincerity.
Mr. Vasan handed over certificates to the graduates, including medal winners and others who had secured ranks in examinations.
