AICTE scrutiny panel to meet from April 5
Chennai: The Regional Scrutiny Committee of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) will meet from April 5 to review the documentation submitted by applicants for new institutions, according to AICTE southern chairman P. Mannar Jawahar.
Dr. Mannar Jawahar said the committee would include him and the Director of Technical Education among others. They would invite 15-20 colleges to Anna University, Chennai, each day and complete the verification process in about 10 days.
Following this, inspection teams would be formed and they would visit the institutions to verify infrastructure details over the next month and the entire process was expected to be completed by May 15, well before the start of counselling for the coming academic year.
In all, 79 institutions had submitted completed applications by the deadline, but AICTE had decided to accept a total of 94 applications including some in which minor details had been left incomplete. Of these, 90 applications were from Tamil Nadu and 4 were from Puducherry, he said.
Of the 90 applications from the State, 50 were for new engineering colleges, 25 for management institutions, 13 for integrated campuses, one for a school of architecture and one for providing PG Diploma courses, Dr. Jawahar said.
